The Beginning...

Moon and Rocki - it's easy to see where the inspiration came for the name MoonRock Ranch, Stephen's and Brandi's slice of heaven in the beautiful neighborhood of Diamond Creek, which Stephen designed and developed in Roseville, CA. Moon was Stephen's horse, and Rocki was Brandi's - she had always had a love of sharing horses with others, so when 8-year old neighbor Meagan showed up at the gate with a delicious treat and said "I love horses, my mom said to bring you this!" a conversation began that sparked the fire that was deep in Brandi's heart to pay it forward thanks to the people in her childhood who understood and nurtured her passion for horses.
Thus began the MoonRock Ranch Barn Kid Program. Those first kids from the neighborhood were so very lucky to get to learn on those two great horses. Moon was the best babysitter for anyone of any age who didn't know a thing. He was so kind, honest and gentle and careful. Once a rider became more confident, he would become more challenging, he was such a great horse. Rocki was the sweetest, in-your-pocket pony (around here, all horses are called ponies, even if they are 16.2 and 1,400 lbs) on the ground, few were intimidated by him, but when riding, from day one he made you work for your success - he would be quite lazy, or brush you off under a tree branch if you weren't in charge. He never wanted to hurt or scare anyone, but he did want you to know what you were doing. Because these boys had been all sorts of places with us, the kids got the benefit of doing things and going places without much worry at all.
From that very beginning we loved getting to start kids out riding bareback, because, well, we think every horse-crazy kid should know how to ride bareback, and no matter what they may do in the horse world beyond our fences, a good bareback seat will make everything easier.
